Ultra Compact, High Performance Camera and Digital TV Reference Design for Netbook and Notebook Lids

Elonics the RF semiconductor company, working with Realtek Semiconductor Corp., one of the world’s leading network and multi-media IC providers, and eMPIA, a leading USB video capture device and audio IC solution provider, have created an ultra-compact reference design that includes a DVB-T digital television alongside a PC camera for embedding in the increasingly popular multi-media centric Netbook and Notebook PC.

With a form factor of only 74mm x 10mm and high sensitivity digital TV design, Elonics latest reference design targets high-performance embedded PC applications and is designed to fit into the PC lid at the top of the screen. The design can be easily modified to fit specific form factor requirements. Different camera resolutions can be used and the feature set can be changed for different configurations.

The production ready module design contains an ultra low component count comprising Elonics E4000 CMOS RF tuner, a Realtek RTL2832 DTV demodulator, an Empia EM2970 USB 2.0 Bridge and an Omnivision OV9660 CMOS sensor. It has a 1.3M Pixel CMOS sensor providing colour SXGA sensor resolution. Full software support benefits include WHQL certified drivers, Windows 7.0 and WMC AQ Support, and player software from Arcsoft and Newsoft Technology.

The reference design is complete with a full performance evaluation, design schematics, PCB layout files, certified drivers and product documentation, reducing time to market and lowering development costs.

About Elonics’ DigitalTune™ multi-band tuner technology
Conventional TV and radio tuners are intrinsically inflexible. Each broadcast standard has traditionally been served by separate radio receivers comprising an RF tuner and a digital demodulator. This makes them unable to meet the new challenges of today’s cost conscious multi-tasking and multi-standard consumer products.
