Elonics Ltd. is a fabless mixed-signal semiconductor company based in Livingston, United Kingdom, specialising in the design and supply of multi-band radio frequency (RF) IC products. The business was established as a consultancy in 2003 and for the first two years grew through offering design services and custom IC development to third party companies.
This success allowed the company to bootstrap its own product R&D and develop DigitalTune™, a unique CMOS RF technology that allows a single tuner solution to cover multiple broadcast standards.
Elonics ambition is to target the market for highly flexible silicon RF tuners, initially for the digital TV and radio market. This market is experiencing rapid growth fuelled by three things; the switch over from analogue to digital broadcast standards, the trend away from canned tuner solutions towards silicon tuners due to their inherent cost and power consumption benefits, and the advent of new mobile TV markets. After successfully completing proof of concept of the technology, Elonics raised its first equity funding with a £2.5M Series A investment in February and May 2008 Elonics' first product family is the E4000 series of silicon tuner solutions targeting the consumer market for consumer digital TV and radio receivers. It allows manufacturers to replace the need for multiple radio tuners with a single re-configurable RF CMOS IC.
